2018 Preview Evening
This was a great success. It was very well attended and people commented on the great diversity and high quality of artwork on display. Pretty good considering that most of us are amateurs.
Rod Ashman was this year's judge. He is an established Exeter-based artist with a preference for acrylics and mixed media and he has an energetic experimental approach to his work. He particularly admires work which engages the onlooker by inviting them to continue looking, thinking and wondering about what they are seeing. One of his own works was on display by the entrance and amply demonstrated that excitement.
Amongst the winners of awards must be mentioned long-time member Jacqueline Ward who played a blinder, not only winning 2 awards but also the raffle!
Talking of which, we are immensely grateful to our President, Phil Creek, and former president and long-time friend of OVAS, Ray Balkwill, for yet again being hugely generous with their raffle prizes. Thankyou to both.
And this year we are raising money, such as from the raffle (£164), for Ottery Help Scheme, based opposite St Saviour's Bridge, which offers voluntary help to all ages in the community according to need, and which is run by Emily Lezzeri who was able to be with us on the night. More information on the OHS can be seen HERE
